Album Post #1 - We Feel Alive

“Oh, WE FEEL ALIVE, FEEL ALIVE! Oh, WE FEEL ALIVE, FEEL ALIVE!!!” This is the song my daughter belts over and over again at the top of her lungs! It is by far her favorite song on the new album and she sings it without an ounce of shame or hurt in her heart. She dances; she moves around and around and just doesn’t care who sees her. She feels fully alive and that is exactly how she lives her life!

But me on the other hand…I feel like “blah”. I’m tired. I have no energy. My body aches. My back is sore. Nothing really seems to be going my way. Can I just curl up into a little ball so that everyone leaves me alone?”

Does this sound familiar to you? Do you ever say these things to yourself and hope that no one knows that you are thinking this? I know I do. As my body ages (and yes I know I’m only 30 and have 2 kids) I know that my wife and I sometimes celebrate when we reach the end of the day! Lord, why is this life so exhausting? Are we really living the life we were made to live?

Life in general can be hard to handle no matter what you do or what your daily schedule holds. But I believe life can sometimes run us dry because we forget where our life comes from and who sustains it. Jesus says in John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; yet I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” The enemy is after our heart stops at nothing to get our full attention. He wants our focus to be on the things that are wrong, on the evil in this world, and most certainly on our own personal failures. So why do we try to look to this world for life and sustainment? We should rather keep our eyes on the one who GIVES LIFE and sustains the world! Only Christ can give us a life, and life abundantly, even when we were dead in our sins. Only He can make us feel alive! We were made to live in fellowship with Him and to live a life according to His will.

“Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.”

Romans 6:12-13

He has so much more in store for us than we could ever imagine. Way more than this world can offer. So, when your back aches, your body is sore, and your life feels like one big “blah,” think of my big brown-eyed daughter singing at the top of her lungs “Oh, WE FEEL ALIVE, FEEL ALIVE!!” Wake up everyday and know that you can live in the Spirit of the one who has created you and given you the opportunity to breathe another breath. Feel alive today, like a little child dancing with no fear, because today is another amazing gift from the sustainer of life. This is what we were made for! This is where we belong!
